Course Description

Through drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, art history and theory, as well as state-of-the-art computer and audio/video technology, students in this creativity based academic level course will have a hands-on introductory look into the tools, aesthetics, and issues which make up their visual culture. Also, it is a fundamental goal of this course to help students to explore their own identity and to creatively express themselves through effective methods and media. This course promises to be exciting and challenging to students of ALL abilities.

 Using aesthetics from great art as the basis for creating a space // PERSPECTIVE

1. Follow the activities in Discovering my aesthetic preferences (PDF) Artwork can also be found by searching the Artchive

2. After this exercise, students are taught the basics of 1pt and 2pt perspective. With these skills in hand, students are asked to create a space in 2pt perspective that is inspired by the aesthetics of the art work they selected.

Your final project should show you can:

  • create a convincing illusion / transformation with yourself and a work from art history.
  • use a variety of marquee tools to make selections
  • control value, colour, texture to make a convincing integration
  • use layers
  • do something sophisiticated such as cloneing, warping, 3D, HDR

TERM II

Art Historical Mural (a PostModern Perspective)

  • select an image of an art work and explain to two class mates what attracted you to it, what it means to you and why, and what you think the artist was attempting to achieve?
  • Dividing your partnership into A , B and C, divide the A's from the B's and C's in the room so you have three distinct groups in the class.
  • In Groups A, B and C, collectively collaborate and invent a story you can tell using all the images.
  • Present your stories to the class
  • Take your stories and images and reorganize them into a mural which can visually deliver the story (use collage, markers, poster paints, etc.).
