In 1964 the New Wales Government had resigned and the new government didn’t care for Utzon. He started to attack Utzon publicly and in private. Utzon wrote to the government and said, “ You force me to leave the job!”  Him and his family left in secret on April 28, 1966. Two men named Todd and Littlemore replaced Utzon.

History
The Sydney Opera House would never have been built if the New South Wales Government hadn’t held a international architectural competition in 1956. The winner was Jorn Utzon from 233 submissions with his idea of the opera house.

The giant “ribs” that create the curve look of the ‘shells” where “threaded” together with cables and stressed so they would curve. Then ceramic tiles where placed on top of these “ribs”. Over 1000 000 tiles were used.

It was created in three phases, the platform and building itself, then the precast “shells,” and finally the exterior. The “shells” were the hardest thing to create. Three to four different ideas were pondered over during 1957-1961. Then in 1963 Utzon’s four year old son gave him the idea that every piece of “shell” should be built as if it where taken from the same sphere. He showed everyone this idea by using orange peels.
