In 1933, Ernest Hemingway and his second wife Pauline sailed to Kenya for an African hunting safari where Hemingway became seriously ill. After recovering, they continue to hunt and he managed to bag a lion. Even during this hunting safari, he brought his hsort story writing along with him to jot down a few things from his adventure to include into a story.
In 1954, Hemingway took his fourth wife, Mary, along with him to Belgian Congo, Kenya and Rwanda. While flying over Uganda their plane crashed and landed near the crocodile infested shores of the Nile River. After this happened, false headlines about them being dead was all over the world. This lead into a 10 week safari in Africa where he succeeded in getting countless animal horns as well as awesome material for some of his story.
