Ernest hemingway loved to bullfight and it became a passion of his life after he saw his first bullfight in Pamplona in 1923 with his wife while she was carrying his son. In the 1920’s he stayed in Pamplona for as long as he could so he could bullfight. He stayed in Pension Aguillar where all the bullfighters stayed because he competed in amateur bullfighting competitions.
Bullfighting has several parts.
Part 1: A man called a picador jabs the bull between the shoulders with a lance while riding a padded blindfolded horse. The bull bleeds and weakens a little.
Part 2: A couple of men called banderilleros stab long ornamental darts with barbs on them into the shoulders of the bull. This weakens the bull even more.
Part 3: The man called the torero (the guy with the cape) gets the bull to run at him while he holds out his cape as a target for the animal.
Part 4: When the bull gets tired enough the torero stabs the bull with a long sword. The bull then bleeds to death internally and drops to the ground. Then the torero stabs the bull in the brain with a butcher knife to kill it completely.
Part 5: The bull gets dragged away by a group of horses.
Part 6: If the president of the arena decides that the torero did a good job, the torero gets to cut off an ear of the bull and throw it to the crowd. If he did an even better job, two ears. An awesome job, two ears and a tail.
