By the mid-1930’s , he was on his way to become the best-known fisherman in North America. He also developed new and more aggressive techniques in deep sea fishing which was said to of changed the sport today.

Often times, Ernest Hemingway would go Marlin fishing down south in Cuba. He would go with a group of friends and sometimes stay for over a month. Only a few times he had seen massive fish over 1000 pounds, which is not uncommon for this species of fish, but you must be lucky to get one to the boat.

As a boy he was taught by his father to hunt and fish along the shores and in the forests surrounding Lake Michigan. Hemingway would either fish the different streams that ran into the lake, or would take the row boat out to do some fishing there. On his fishing boat , Hemingway used a machine gun to fend off sharks to keep them from eating his catch before he could hoist it into the boat
