History

Ziggurats were used as type of temple by the ancient Sumerians, Babylonians and Assyrians. Well know examples of a ziggurat are the Tower of Babel, Great Ziggurat of Ur, and Etemenanki. The ziggurats were said to be the dwellings of the gods. Priests were the only ones allowed to go inside the ziggurat, so that they would care for the gods.
