I did this pencil sketch on New Year's Eve day of 2000. I got my dad to clench his fist and then did a sketch of it while he waited impatiently. I think that the sketch is very effective – the contrast between the light palm of the hand and the dark lines between the fingers creates tension, as well as the convergence of many of the skin wrinkles on the center of the palm. I used a B art pencil for this sketch.

I enjoy sketching – it is one of my favourite visual media. If I do say so myself, my sketching ability has improved greatly since the beginning of the year, and I plan to improve it more over the summer and into the future.
