I
made this clay sculpture in much less time than the rest of
our class, which provides some explanation for the not-so-smoothed
surface. The requirements for this project were that the form
must be dynamic, have motion, and be balanced. The two main
arms of the figure pull in a circular direction, creating a
forceful movement around the sculpture, and the figure is balanced
around the center joint of the two arms.
Sculpting clay is very relaxing, and the experimentation that is possible along the way is the fun part. I went through many different possibilities for a design in a short period of time before I settled on this one. The dimples on the tips of the arms were afterthoughts, but I think that they add to the work as a whole by providing a contrast the rest of the sculpture.
