Science 10 teachers (Lennie Comeau, Kathy Fuller, George Turner, and Tracy Webb) at Horton High School have collaborated to create an independent study unit on Motion.
Students will follow the recommended schedule accessed on-line to complete several outcomes associated with the Science 10 curriculum. Handouts will be provided for students on a daily basis and the teacher will be available for assistance.
The use of technology in the classroom
is emphasized. Investigations, activities, and tutorials will be completed.
Notes will be provided and students will have the opportunity to view videos
and PowerPoint presentations.
· Investigations require the students to complete questions using
the text and/or other reference material provided.
· Activities will engage the students in experimental design.
· Tutorials may be completed on-line for concept review and practice.
· Notes are provided to give the students necessary background
information.
· Short video clips may be viewed for the reinforcement of basic
kinematic principles.
· PowerPoint presentations are used for providing background information
and review
Teachers may adjust the suggested schedule by shortening or lengthening the number of classes as needed. It is recommended that the teacher introduce significant digits and metric conversions prior to the unit.
Evaluation for this unit may be
completed through the use of a presentation, reports, an assignment, quizzes,
and a test. The teacher could also choose to use a form of self/peer evaluation.
