Political Design from World War One, Britain

In the First World War citizens were influenced to enlist in the army because of the need for soldiers. Huge propaganda posters were displayed in newspapers and on streeet corners. The adds were directed at all ages and to both sexes encouraging the British people to get involved in the war and stressing the fact that everyone plays an important role. Propaganda posters are a good example of political design from the early part of this century because they played such an influencial role in the daily lives of the British people.

Practical Design from 1974, United States of America

The design of the computer changed the way the world communicates. Computers changed the way people learn, teach, think and feel. They have played a vital role in the work force since thier invention. incredible advances have been made since Ed Roberts made the blue print for the Altair 8800. Word processing was availible to the average individual and an entire entertainment empire was born. The design of the computer is always evolving and impacted life in the 1970's and continues to impact daily western life at present.

 Expressive Design from 1916, Hungry

This piece of art is an example from the Dada movement of the first half of this century. painted by Janco in 1916 , this piece of art , like all Dada art was meant to expose the self-deception of established society. Dadaism was a form of rebellion by artists who were sick of the the way the gouvernment worked. The themes of Dada paintings are often things like anarchy, the rejection of social structure and the abandonment of beauty. The paintings were often "anti-asthetic" and were not liked by the general public. It is recorded that the term Dada was chosen randomly from a French -German dictionary but in actual fact it most likely came from the Russian pronounciation of the word yes, yes. The Dadistists could be considered very political but are also expressive of thier time.

 Transformation 1950- 1990, North America

With this fashion desighn from 1999 I transformed it to the 1950's. I researched the fsahion of both eras and learned that the tree quater sleeve wasn't used but i concluded it would be practical. In the 1950's women worked in the kitchen and cleaned the houses so a shorter sleeve wouldn't be in the way. I tried to make the picture look older and use a sans serif font. The young women was given a shoulder lenght bob and higher neck line to fit the time. the slogan was focused at a house wife which would have been the majority of women in the 1950's. I changed the jeans into a navy blue skirt because women wore skirts even while cleaning. I learned a lot by doing this project. I was exposed to another time that I knew really nothing about. I was introduced to the history of advertising and i learned about photoshop. I was difficult becase of my lack of computer skills to get everything done exactly the way I had planned but I am pleased with the final result.
