Art Work of the

20th Century

Salvador Dali "On Paranoic Critical Town",1936,Oil on Panel 46*66

Salvador Dali is one of the most famous surrealist artists of the 20th Century, his unusual paintings made him one of the most publicized figures in the fine arts. This work was important in 1936, because it opened people to a new concept of the possibilities of art. It is important today, because this work is open to our own interpretations. The way we view art tells us more about ourselves. Dalis work is considered "hand painted dream photographs", with a nightmarish combination of precisely detailed figures and objects. His work is characterized by violent or sexual association and the use of complicated , puzzling symbols. Dali lived in Spain and that is where he got his inspiration for the landscapes in this and most of his paintings.

  Andy Warhol"jackie"

Andy Warhol used this piece as documentary reflecting the american political and social history of the United States. It was important bacause it reflected the emotions of the american people . It is important today because it serves as a reference to the events of the sixities. Warhol was not taken seriously for most of his career ,he decided to do more pieces like this to show a more serious side to his work. Warhol used Jackie to show how the assination of John f.Kennedy, jr, altered the spirit of the United States. The different angles used could be compared to that of the different perspectives and emotions , being felt by the American people. The grain effect shows the vail of tradegy and sorrow covering her and the american people.
