GRAFFITI

Developing more and more throughout the twentieth century people have felt the need to express themselves visually, interperting and affecting the world around them.

Unfortunately, there are some people who see graffiti as a problem, in that it lowers property values and costs tax dollars to clean up. It is equally unfortunate that graffiti is the only tool some people have for expression. What better way to speak your mind to the world than through a visual essay they can't ignore.

The media continues to portray graffiti as vandelism and destructive meaningless scribbles. The public looks at graffiti through the shaping eyes of the media; a negative attitude.

It is unfortunate that graffiti artists have been given such a negative undertone. The positive conceptions of this form of graffiti would be restored if the public were more knowledgeable of what this graffiti really consisted of.

This creative outlet for many people would be more accepted, and graffiti artists would have a better chance of achieving something beyond their neighborhoods, if only the public's perception of graffiti would change.
