Design Project Topics:

  1. As a team, create a virtual tour of a place, such as your school or township, to be experienced through the internet or a CD Rom. This virtual tour might use video clips, sound bites, pictures, Quicktime Virtual Reality, Macromedia Director, Hyperstudio, etc., to construct an environment that will provide an audience with a reasonable conceptual and affective understanding a place.
  2. Develop a personal and interactive portfolio that can be experienced through a CD Rom or other computer media. You could collect all of the successful work you have created over the year and present the work through an interactive environment such as ones created using Director, HTML and Java, or Hyperstudio. This is to represent you, promoting your finest qualities and skills, not just your art work and not to be self indulgent. The form and function of your portfolio will be as important as your content.
  3. Fully develop a website for a local business that can effectively engage an audience.
  4. Create a full layout of a magazine or newspaper publication. This should include a cover and back plus two or more insert pages.
  5. PRODUCT DESIGN: Take an existing product and change its image. You can make it work better, or be more attractive to a demographic. Material choices and form will need to be well considered and researched in your design brief.
  6. create a video which acts as a commercial or mini movie. Storyboards, scripting, camera shots, and editing are all to be well considered and executed. See Video12 links
  7. Design and produce a video production to meet a specific need. Example, produce a video yearbook, a weekly news broadcast, school trip, etc. Storyboards, scripting, camera shots, and editing are all to be well considered and executed. SeeVideo12 links
  8. Create an artistic installation of a space that will meaningfully engage an audience.
  9. Develop and produce a three part ad campaign promoting a concept that is important to yourself or your community. E.g. scent free environments, celebrating our differences, environmental protection, globalization, marketing to children (McDonald’s), etc. ..
  10. Develop a website which acts as a gallery of all work done in your Design 11 class. This can be organized by project, module, or student.
  11. Design, create and promote scale models for a space that is environmentally friendly and handicap accessible and based on a theme. This space may be, for example:

Other…? You can propose an alternative project in writing to me within 3 days. This proposal is to be clearly written and organized. From this I need to know roughly what I should expect to see as a product an exactly what kind of process you plan to follow towards resolving your project. Hint… a good design process is one where you have identified a problem (have a task) and you are hunting for the best solution.
