In Brief:

The AVRSB Fine Arts Certificate is designed for students who
wish to develop their potential in Dance, Drama, Music and/or
Visual Arts. Upon graduation, this certificate should indicate
to post-secondary institutions that the certificate holder
is committed to the arts and has had an art education that
promotes excellence, rigor, and life long learning in and
                    through the arts.

An arts education is a rigorous and essential component of
a full course of academic study as prescribed by the Nova
Scotia Department of Education. An arts education offers students
unique ways of knowing and experiencing their world and themselves.
Moreover, an arts education leads students to think creatively
and critically and to communicate effectively – preparing
them for successful careers in Canada’s largest growth
sectors, particularly culture and information technologies.

Students are eligible to receive a AVRSB Fine Arts Certificate
for producing a portfolio of twelve art works and by earning
five arts credits taken throughout grades 10, 11, and 12.
Other courses may include Design 11, Film and Video Productions
                    12, Multimedia 12, and Cultural Industries 11.
